Check the Town's Fire Rating page (www.townofkearney.ca/obtain-fire-permit) before burning — the rating is verified daily and states whether daytime burning is permitted.
Obtain a fire permit: permits are required from April 1 to October 31 for all outdoor fires, at residences and at campgrounds. Burning without a permit may result in fines.
For a Three-Day Permit, attend one of the three authorized vendors in person: Fetterley's Garage (1770 Highway 518 East, Kearney), Kearney General Store (98 Main St., Kearney), or Rickward's Small Motors Inc. (1914 Hwy 518, Kearney).
For a Full-Season Permit or a Special Permit, contact Fire Chief Paul Schaefer at paul.schaefer@townofkearney.ca or (705) 636-7402 to schedule an appointment at the Kearney Fire Hall, 111 Main St.
When burning: keep the fire to a maximum of 2 ft x 2 ft, stay in attendance at all times, keep water or another extinguishing method nearby, and fully extinguish the fire before leaving.
Observe permitted hours — burning is permitted between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.; daytime burning is prohibited when the rating so requires (a daytime burning prohibition took effect April 1, 2026).
Do not set off fireworks or sky lanterns anywhere in Kearney (By-law 2018-24).
