Can I burn today in Terrace Bay?
Terrace Bay’s by-law does not set out what each fire danger rating allows, so this page cannot tell you whether today is a burning day. Today’s rating is beside this, and the fire hall below has the answer.

As specified on permit
Obtain a Fire Permit in person at the TB Community Centre Office (1 Selkirk Avenue)
Pay the $30 fee
Comply with the 15 km/hr wind limit, no burning if rainy/foggy or during a declared Smog Alert, and the applicable hours (4pm-1am for Outdoor Fire Containers, 11am-1am for Cooking Fires).
General prohibition (Section 2.1)
No person shall set, maintain, or permit to be set or maintained, an Open Air Burning except as authorized under this By-law.
Wind, weather, and smog alert conditions (Section 3.5(h)-(j))
Every person setting, permitting to be set, maintaining, or permitting to be maintained, an Open Air Burning ... shall comply with the following conditions: ... (h) shall ensure the Wind Speed does not exceed 15 km per hour during the Open Air Burning; (i) shall not burn if it is rainy or foggy; (j) shall not burn if a Smog Alert has been declared.
Smog Alert definition (Part 1)
"Smog Alert" means an alert issued by the Ministry of the Environment with respect to air quality.
Outdoor Fire Container hours (Section 3.2(2)(a))
A person conducting an Open Air Burning shall comply with the following conditions for an Open Air Burning in an Outdoor Fire Container: (a) shall only conduct the Open Air Burning between 4:00 p.m. and 1 a.m.
Permit fee provision (Section 3.4(2)(a))
Every Permit is subject to the conditions in this Part of obtaining and continuing to hold a Permit, all of which shall be performed and observed by the applicant or the holder of the Permit: (a) the applicant shall pay the Application Fee and, if the application is approved, a Permit Fee as set out in the applicable Fees and Charges By-law.
Penalty (Section 9.1)
Any person who contravenes any provision of this by-law is guilty of an offence and: (a) upon a first conviction is subject to a minimum fine of $100.00 and a maximum fine of $5,000.00; (b) upon a subsequent conviction is subject to a minimum fine of $500.00 and a maximum fine of $10,000.00.
