As specified on permit; campfire permits may be issued annually
Obtain a permit of approval from the Fire Chief or designate before conducting any open air burning, incinerator fire, campfire, or chiminea fire
Comply with wind (15 km/hr max), distance, and material restrictions
Report any fire out of control to the Fire Department by calling 911.
Permit required (Section 4.1)
No person shall permit an open air fire or any other fire upon land owned, occupied or under their control within the Municipality unless a permit has first been obtained from the Municipality.
Open air burning conditions - wind and smog (Section 4.2(10))
No person shall set or maintain open air burning when the wind speed exceeds 15 kilometers per hour or during a fire ban or during rainy or foggy weather or at times when a smog alert has been declared. The appropriate Federal and/or Provincial Government agency shall be used as the source for this information.
Distance and pile size requirements (Section 4.2(6)-(7))
Open air burning shall be confined to a location that provides for a minimum distance of four (4) meters in all directions from adjacent properties; Open air burning shall be confined to an area that is a minimum of three (3) meters from combustible structures or objects.
Fire season (Section 2.14)
"Fire Season" shall mean the period from the 1st day of April to the 31st day of October in each year or as determined by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, or its successor.
Brush/grass/leaf burning conditions (Section 4.3)
All persons proposing to conduct an open air burning of brush, grass, leaf or such other materials shall first obtain a permit of approval from the Fire Chief or designate and shall abide by the following conditions: 4.3(1) Total area shall not exceed 0.40 hectare (1 acre); ... 4.3(7) Open air burning shall not be conducted if winds are 15km/hr or higher or during a fire ban.
Campfire conditions (Section 4.5)
No person shall set a recreational (camp) fire in the Municipality without first obtaining a permit of approval from the Fire Chief or designate. ... 4.5(3) The diameter of the fire shall not exceed 60 centimetres; 4.5(4) The fire shall be located at least 3 metres from any structure or building; 4.5(5) The fire shall be located at least 5 metres from any forest or wooded area.
Penalty (Section 10.4)
A person who is convicted of an offence under this Bylaw is liable, for each day or part of a day that the offence continues to a maximum fine of $10,000.00 and the total of all daily fines for the offence is not limited to $100,000.00 as provided for in Subsection 429(3)2 of the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended.
