Brush-burning permits are limited to two days.
Fire permit authority (Section 1.1)
The Public Works Superintendent or designate and/or the Fire Chief or designate shall have authority to authorize the issuance of permits to set out fires in the open air and upon application... may authorize the issuance of a permit, called a "FIRE PERMIT" to set out fires during the period commencing January 1st and ending December 31st of each year for open air fires and recreational fires.
Wind threshold (Section 5.4)
NO fires are to be started or allowed to burn when winds are greater than 10 kilometers. Wind conditions indicating levels greater than 10 kilometers include but are not limited to: leaves and small twigs constantly moving, light flags extended, leaves moving, white caps, and constant breeze in face.
Burn hours (Section 5.7)
The fire is to be ignited no sooner than two (2) hours before sunset and must be extinguished two (2) hours after sunrise or earlier.
Open Air Fire definition/standards (Section 1, Definitions)
Open Air Fire shall mean a fire constructed to the following standards: i. the site of the fire is bare rock or other non-combustible material; ii. the fire is at least two meters from any flammable material; iii. the space above the one meter area around the fire is at least 3 meters from vegetation; iv. the fire does not exceed 0.5 metres (1.6 feet) in height and 1 metres (3.2 feet) in diameter; v. the person in control of the fire is 18 years of age or older.
Provincial Fire Restriction Zone (Section 3.1-3.2)
When the province has enacted a Fire Restriction Zone for areas within the Township of Nipigon, no fires of any kind will be permitted. ... it is illegal to set out a fire for any purpose within the affected area, and failure to comply could result in a fine up to $1,000, three months in jail, and financial responsibility for any costs incurred infighting a forest fire caused the illegal act.
Nuisance smoke (Section 5.6)
No fires are to be started or allowed to burn when winds blow smoke to neighboring properties that may create nuisance smoke (smoke that interferes with the ability of a landowner, tenant or legal renter of a property to enjoy such property).
