South Stormont’s by-law does not set out what each fire danger rating allows, so this page cannot tell you whether today is a burning day. Today’s rating is beside this, and the fire hall below has the answer.

Apply online via the Township's form (forms.southstormont.ca/Protective-Services/Burn-Permit) or in person at the Township Office (2 Mille Roches Road, Long Sault)
Pay the $10.00 permit fee
Note that a no-permit option exists for small (46cm x 46cm x 46cm) outdoor fire containers between 8:00am-midnight in non-built-up areas.
Permit required (Section 2.1)
No Person shall set, maintain, or permit to be set or maintained an Open air fire except as authorized under this By-law.
Built-up area restriction (Section 2.2)
No Person shall receive an Open air burn Permit in the Township of South Stormont in those areas being hamlets, villages, subdivisions, or any other Built up areas at the discretion of the Chief Fire Official.
Wind speed threshold (Section 3.1.1(h))
shall ensure the wind speed does not exceed 8 kilometres (approximately 5 miles) per hour during the Open air fire;
Weather and Smog Alert conditions (Section 3.1.1(i)-(j))
shall not burn if it is rainy or foggy; shall not burn if a smog alert has been declared;
No-permit outdoor fire container hours (Section 3.2.2(a))
shall only conduct an Open air fire between 8:00 a.m. and midnight;

Cost recovery cap (Fee Schedule)
First hour (or part thereof) $350.00 per vehicle; Each additional half hour $175.00 per vehicle... Fees to be charged to a maximum of $2,000.00 per incident.
