Perth East’s by-law does not set out what each fire danger rating allows, so this page cannot tell you whether today is a burning day. Today’s rating is beside this, and the fire hall below has the answer.

Per-burn (verbal permission required, non-transferable)
Contained-site fires (campfires, fire pits) need no permit and may burn between sunset and sunrise if built per Schedule A specs. For an Open Air Controlled Burn (e.g., brush), call the Fire Chief or designate at least 30 minutes before burning during Township office hours (Mon-Fri 8:30-16:30) with the property owner's name/address/phone, material type, and proposed date/time, and obtain verbal permission before lighting.
Contained site fires - no permit required (Section 3.1)
An Open Air Fire in a Contained Site (Campfires) DOES NOT require a permit, however the Regulations in Schedule “A” shall be followed in order to comply with this By-Law. i. Open fires in contained sites are permitted between sunset and sunrise.
Open Air Controlled Burn notification (Section 3.3)
The Fire Chief or designate shall be notified of an intent to set an Open Air Controlled Burn not less than 30 minutes (1/2 hour) prior to the setting of the said burn by the owner or owner’s designate, who shall be a responsible person. Notification will be made by telephone during Township Office Hours, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30, excluding statutory holidays. Verbal permission by the Fire Chief or designate is required.
Fire ban definitions (Section 1.12)
“fire ban” means a restriction or prohibition on open air burning, including contained site fires, due generally to extremely dry conditions and is issued by the Chief Fire Official; i. Stage I ban – no open air fires with the exception of contained site fires at approved campgrounds. ii. Stage II ban – complete ban of all open air fires.
Prohibited materials (Section 4.4)
No person shall burn prohibited materials of which any part consists of: household garbage or other items such as tires, plastics, asphalt products, painted or stained wood, plywood and other laminates, pressure treated wood, or other imported materials.
Setback recommendation (Section 4.6)
No person shall set an open air fire or contained site fire in any area so close to a building that it endangers the building, or any persons or animals located inside the building... iii. Keep it 25 feet from combustible structures, including decks and fences. iv. Keep it 25 feet from property lines when there is no fence.
Fire ban compliance (Sections 4.13-4.14)
4.13 No person shall set or maintain an open fire during a Stage I fire ban as issued by the Fire Chief except for the use of a barbeque and contained site fires at approved campgrounds. 4.14 No person shall set or maintain an open fire during a Stage II fire ban as issued by the Fire Chief except for the use of a barbeque.
