Can I burn today in Evanturel?

General provisions (Section 1(1)-(2))

Fire season shall be the period of April 1st to October 31st of each year. A fire may be set in open air during fire season without a burning permit provided that all the conditions are met in Section 2 (Burning Permits Not Required) of this by-law. In all other cases, no person shall set out fires in open air during fire season without first obtaining a burning permit from a Township Fire Warden.

Wind / visibility restriction (Section 1(11))

No open air fire shall fire shall be started or maintained when the wind is in such direction or intensity so as to cause any or all of the following: a decrease in visibility on any highway or roadway; a rapid spread of fire through grass or a bush area.

Permits not required - small confined fires (Section 2(1))

Notwithstanding the provisions of any other Section of this By-law, open air burning may be set out during fire season without a burning permit when such burning consists of a small confined campfire which is supervised at all times and is used only for cooking or personal warmth.

Permits not required - piled wood/brush conditions (Section 2(2)(a))

the fire is ignited no sooner than 2 hours before sunset and extinguished no later than 2 hours after sunrise; only a single pile is burned at any one time; the pile is not more than 2 metres in diameter and less than 2 metres high; the fire is at least 2 metres from any flammable materials; you have persons, tools and water adequate to contain the fire to the fire site; a responsible adult person tends the fire until it is extinguished.

Permits not required - grass/leaf litter conditions (Section 2(2)(c))

the fire is ignited no sooner than 2 hours before sunset and extinguished no later than 2 hours after sunrise; the total area to be burned does not exceed 1 hectare; the flaming edge of the fire does not exceed 30 metres in length; a responsible adult person tends the fire until it is extinguished.

Permits required (Section 3(1)-(2))

No person shall set out any outdoor burning during fire season which is outside of any of the conditions described in Section 2 of this By-law without first obtaining a burning permit from a Township Fire Warden. The issuing of a burning permit is at the discretion of the Township Fire Warden, and the Fire Warden may prescribe on the burning permit any terms and conditions of burning that he/she feels is necessary and appropriate.

Penalty (Section 4(2))

Every person who contravenes any provisions of this By-law, and upon conviction therefore is subject to a fine of not more than $2,000.00 exclusive of costs, and every fine is recoverable under the Provincial Offenses Act.
