Brighton’s by-law does not set out what each fire danger rating allows, so this page cannot tell you whether today is a burning day. Today’s rating is beside this, and the fire hall below has the answer.

Per calendar year
Apply and pay the $20/calendar-year Burn Permit fee via the Municipality's burnpermits.com portal (brighton.burnpermits.com) or in person at Fire & Rescue Station #1 (20 Elizabeth St.)
Call the Fire Department's activation line before lighting and after extinguishing each burn
Comply with the applicable Recreational/Farm/Incinerator setback and size rules (Sections 3-5).
Permit required (Section 2.1)
No person shall cause or permit an open air burn on any land for any purpose other than to cook on a barbecue, without first having obtained a Burn Permit issued by the Municipality in accordance with the provisions of this By-law and Schedule 'A' thereto.
Activation requirement (Section 2.3)
No person shall cause or permit a burn without first calling 1-844-475-1744 to activate the Burn Permit and after the fire is out, calling 1-844-475-1744 to de-activate the Burn Permit.
Fire Ban / smog alert / wind threshold (Section 2.4)
No person shall cause or permit an open air burn during a Fire Ban or when a smog alert has been declared by the Ministry of Environment, when the Natural Resources Canada 'Fire Danger Rating' is greater than low, or when the wind speed exceeds 30 kilometers per hour (19 miles p/h).
Recreational burning setback (Section 3.1(c)-(d))
keep the burn confined to a location that provides for a minimum distance of 4.5 metres (15 feet) in all directions from adjacent properties, ... keep the burn confined to an area that is a minimum of 4.5metres (15 feet) from buildings, structures and/or other combustible objects and materials.
Farm burning conditions (Section 4.1)
conduct open air burning during daylight hours only, ... keep the burn confined to an area that is at least 46 metres (150 feet) from any highway, road or wooded area and from any building, structure or other combustible objects and materials.
Fees (Schedule B)
Burn Permit Fee $ 20.00 per calendar year.
