Can I burn today in Nairn and Hyman?
Nairn and Hyman’s by-law does not set out what each fire danger rating allows, so this page cannot tell you whether today is a burning day. Today’s rating is beside this, and the fire hall below has the answer.

A rating is not permission. A fire ban can be declared at any time. Township of Nairn and Hyman (Municipal Office) decides — not this page.
No permit or application is required. Open air burning (including incinerator fires and cooking campfires) is allowed subject to the By-law's own conditions: outside 8:00am-7:00pm between May 1-Oct 30 (unrestricted hours Oct 31-Apr 30), only clean wood/brush/leaves, a responsible adult present at all times, size limits (2m x 2m for general open air fires and incinerators, 1m x 1m for cooking campfires), minimum setback distances, and only during a declared low or moderate fire hazard (prohibited during high/extreme fire hazard or a fire ban/restricted fire zone).
Burn hours, warm season (Section 2.1)
No Person shall cause or permit, conduct or engage in any Open Air Burning in the Township between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. each and every day between May 1st and October 30th. All provisions of Sections 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 must be met in order to engage in Open Air Burning during the allowable times.
Burn hours, cold season (Section 2.2)
Open Air Burning is permitted in the Township anytime of day, each and every day between October 31st and April 30th as long as the provisions of Sections 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 are met.
Wind conditions (Section 2.7)
No person shall start or tend any fire outdoors when the wind conditions are such that it may cause any of the following: 2.7.1. A decrease in visibility on any highway or road. 2.7.2 The rapid spread of fire through grass, brush, forested area or other property that was not intended to be burned. 2.7.3. An adverse impact on other people or property. 2.7.4 The contravention of any municipal law, provincial or federal legislation.
Fire hazard suspension (Section 2.8)
No person shall start or tend a fire outdoors during a period of extreme fire hazard.
General open air burning conditions (Section 3.1)
Except as provided in Section 4.1 of this By-law, no person shall start or tend a fire outdoors unless all of the following conditions are met: 3.1.1 The person is burning clean wood, brush, leaves or discarded wood by products. 3.1.2 A responsible person is present to tend and supervise the fire until it is completely extinguished. 3.1.3 The material is burned in a single pile that is less than 2 metres in diameter and less than 2 metres high. ... 3.1.6 The Chief Fire Official has declared that there is a low fire hazard or moderate fire hazard. 3.1.7 Open air fires are not permitted if the Chief Fire Official has declared a high or extreme fire hazard.
Campfires for cooking (Section 4.1)
No person shall start or tend a campfire outdoors for the purpose of cooking unless all of the following conditions are met: 4.1.1 The fire does not exceed one (1) metre in diameter and one (1) metre in height. ... 4.1.5 The fire shall be at least six (6) metres from any combustible material and/or structures. 4.1.6 A municipal fire ban or restricted fire zone is not in effect.
