Can I burn today in LaSalle?
LaSalle’s by-law does not set out what each fire danger rating allows, so this page cannot tell you whether today is a burning day. Today’s rating is beside this, and the fire hall below has the answer.

No permit or application is required for a Recreational Fire or Cooking Fire that meets the by-law's own conditions (safe location >=5m from structures/>=3m from property lines, acceptable burn material, supervised, <=1 sq. metre, wind <=25km/h, not a Poor Air Quality Day or High Risk Period). Farmers burning agricultural residue must telephone the LaSalle Fire Service at 519-966-0744 immediately before and after burning, but do not apply for or receive a permit.
Wind speed threshold (Section 5(d))
No person shall set a Recreational Fire or Open Fire or maintain a Recreational Fire or Open Fire when wind conditions are in such direction or intensity to cause any or all of the following: ... d) Wind speeds are forecasted or reported greater than 25km/h, inclusive of wind gusts.
Poor Air Quality Day / High Risk Period prohibition (Section 6)
No person shall set a Recreational or an Open Fire during a period identified as a Poor Air Quality Day (air quality health index value forecasted or reported by Environment Canada for the Windsor-Essex region greater than 7) or a High Risk Period. The use of fireworks is subject to approval by the Fire Chief or designate and may be permitted at their discretion.
Recreational Fire conditions (Section 7)
No person shall set a Recreational Fire or Open Fire subject to the following regulations being met: a) the fire must be set in a safe location, on the landowner's own property and contained within an appropriate device; b) the fire must be fueled only with acceptable burn material; c) the fire must be supervised at all times by a competent adult; d) effective means of extinguishing must be readily available; e) the fire must be fully extinguished before being left unsupervised.
Size limit (Section 8)
No person shall set a Recreational Fire or Open Fire greater than one (1) square metre with flames no higher than one (1) metre in height.
Agricultural burning -- notification, not a permit (Section 14)
Notwithstanding the provisions of this by-law, in an area where farming is conducted, a person may burn material generated on the landowner's property which are the remains of an activity inherent to farming... unless following these specific and inclusive conditions: a) No person shall set an open air fire referred to in Section 14 without notifying a member of the LaSalle Fire Service at 519-966-0744 immediately prior to starting an Open Fire and after; b) Open fires must be confined to daylight hours.
Penalty (Section 15)
Every person violating any provision of this by-law shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding Five Thousand ($5,000) Dollars exclusive of costs and such fine shall be recoverable under the Provincial Offences Act.
