Campfire/Bonfire/Burn Barrel permits process automatically, while Agricultural and Non-Agricultural applications are reviewed by the Fire Prevention Division (1 business day for approval). Residents can also check the current Fire Hazard Index Rating on the portal.
Permit required (Section 3.1)
No person shall set, maintain, permit or cause to be set or maintained an open air fire in the Municipality without a current valid permit.
Notify Fire Department (Section 3.3)
No person shall set, maintain, permit or cause to be set or maintained an Agricultural or Non-Agricultural open air fire in the Municipality without first notifying the fire department.
Fire ban (Section 3.5)
No person shall set, maintain, permit or cause to be set or maintained an open air fire during a fire ban.
Wind threshold (Section 5.4)
No person shall permit an open air fire to occur when the wind velocity is reported to be greater than fifteen (15) kilometers per hour.
Permit validity (Section 4.2-4.3)
A Campfire/Bonfire/Burn Barrel Permit is valid for one full calendar year from date of issuance... An Agricultural Open Air Burn Permit is valid for one year from date of issuance. (a) a Non-Agricultural Open Air Burn Permit if valid for 3 weeks from the date of issuance.
Acreage/location restriction (Section 4.8)
Agricultural and Non-Agricultural Open Air Burning is not permitted in urban areas within the Municipality or on properties less than 2 acres in size.
Burn hours (Section 5.12)
Every permit holder shall ensure an open air fire is conducted in day light hours beginning not less than 1/2 hour after sunrise and concluding 1/2 hour before sunset... excluding Campfires (By-law 2026-044).
Fees (Section 8.1)
The fee for a permit shall be as prescribed in the Municipality's Fees and Charges By-law.
