Permit required (Section 2.1)
No person shall set or maintain an open air fire without first having obtained the necessary permit from the Fire Department.
Fire ban (Section 2.2)
No person shall set or maintain an open air fire when a fire ban has been declared.
Wind conditions (Section 2.3)
No person shall set or maintain an open air fire when the wind is in such a direction or intensity to cause any or all the following: a) The possible spread of fire beyond the approved burn site. b) A decrease in visibility on any roadway. c) Excessive smoke. d) An adverse effect.
Permit activation (Section 4.7)
Authorization to set or maintain any open air burn shall be acquired each time by calling the automated burn permit phone line: 1-844-749-2876 once a permit has been issued / approved it is valid for a period not exceeding 24 hours. Alternatively, authorization may be approved through the Fire Administration Office:(613)-498-2460 Monday- Friday 8:30-4 prior to setting any open air burn.
XL Brush Fire permit (Section 5.1)
An XL Burn permit shall be required to set any Brush Fire. This type of fire is not included with the annual permit. All XL Burn permits are subject to inspection and approval by the Fire Chief before becoming active... XL Burn Permits remain active for fourteen (14) calendar days once approved.
Campfire/outdoor fireplace clearance (Section 5.2(f))
Unless the campfire is located a distance of not less than 5m (meters) from any building, hedge, fence, overhead wiring or other combustible material or roadway.

Offences and continuing fines (Section 8.2-8.3)
A person who is convicted of a first offence under this By-law is liable, for each day or part of a day that the offence continues to a maximum fine of no more than $5,000. The total of all daily fines imposed for the continuing offence may exceed $100,000.
